Emirates initially approached R+R to produce a re-design of the existing Dubai Exiles Ruby grounds for their pitch to the IRB for the 2008 Sevens World Cup. However this soon became a problematic as the new Meydan development meant the Exiles grounds would make way for the new project. Emirates then had to find an alternative site as the WC had by this time been awarded and there was only eleven months until the tournament.
The new site was found on Al Ain Road some 25KM outside Dubai in the middle of the desert. Working closely with Emirates, Promoseven Sports, AGRFU and Exiles we as a team had under 12 months to complete the design and build of seven Rugby pitches, Grandstand and 12 changing rooms and a new Clubhouse in time for the 2007 Dubai Sevens three months before the 2008 WC. To say this was a tight schedule was not just an understatement, it was a fact and the final workers and bulldozers left site at 4:30am three hours before the gates opened to the public.
7he Sevens now hosts a wide range local sports and concerts and is now a major part of Dubai's annual social calendar.
